Welcome to the official Seitou Ryu Karate website

Chief Instructor, Sensei Richard Hang Hong, 3rd Dan, has over 14 years continuous training and teaching experience in both traditional and sport karate. He is assisted by a team of fully qualified instructors. All instructors and assistant instructors in Seitou Ryu are first aid trained and have passed an enhanced CRB check. We are affiliated to the Shi Kon Martial Arts Association, Ho Shindo Karate, Seiwakai, and the Japan Karatedo Federation Goju Kai.

Beginners and advanced grades are welcome to come and train at any of our many training locations across Essex. We currently have over 200 members actively training each week.

Specialised courses in kata (forms), kumite (sparring) and Self Defence are held periodically throughout the year as well as an annual summer training camp.

We also hold two competitions each year: an open tournament in Spring and a charity tournament in November. We also have a squad of students who regularly compete both here in the UK and overseas at national and international levels. Social events are held throughout the year where students and families from different locations can meet and get to know one another.

Our club has an ‘open door’ policy, so if you are affiliated with another style, club or association, you are welcome to come and train with us and there will be no pressure to join.

We hold classes for children (aged 5 – 12yrs), teens & adults (aged 13yrs+), mixed classes where the whole family can train together as well as specialist senior grade classes and private one-to-one tuition.
